Winter Activities for Toddlers

For toddlers who always want to play outside, it can get boring after being cooped up inside the house in cold winter days. As a parent or someone who takes care of active tots, you should know how you can entertain them during the whole winter period so that they will not feel restless and bored. One thing you can do is to think of some winter crafts for toddlers that you can do with your children. Here are some ideas and tips that might be useful.

Fun Activities for toddlers on those rainy days can be easier than you think. You have to come up with some fun indoor activities. Use these on rainy days, and even when Winter comes around. It is amazing how as parents we can get creative right along with our toddlers.

Snow sledging is the first thing that might pop up in your little kids’ mind whenever they see the first batch of white ice crystals falling from the sky. Sledging in your backyard or Local Park is the perfect activity for everyone to enjoy. You don’t even need a proper sled, just improvise things like using a cardboard of a plastic board. Just always remember to use proper protection gear such as helmets, kneepads, and shoulder pads to protect you, and especially the children.

Children should be dressed in multiple layers of clothing, as this technique helps retain body heat next to the skin and helps keep your child warm. Under shirts and long johns are the first layer and should be carefully chosen for their heat retention and moisture wicking properties. These are shirts and “tights” of various designs and thicknesses and are very helpful in keeping your child warm.

As parents, we take responsibility in making sure that they are properly equipped with protective gears as they enjoy their surroundings. These protective gears or clothing’s may be any or combination of the following: toddler snow jacket, toddler snow pants, toddler and baby snow suits, toddler hats and beanies, toddler snow boots, baby mittens and toddler hand gloves. Some can be combined while others may be substitutes such as the snowsuit for babies instead of matching snow pants and snow jackets that may be a hassle especially when changing diapers.

Winter Hats: Hats protect the head and neck area from the wind and other elements. Wool hats are typically the warmest, but tend to annoy young children due to the “itch factor” associated with wool clothing. For severe weather consider hats that also cover portions of the ear or the entire ear.

A great activity during May, especially for the little ones, is a trip to the zoo. Animals are coming out of hibernation and this is the best time to get a chance to see lots of species that you may have missed in the summer or fall. Take your camera and supply the children with one of their own to make a memorable trip that they will all enjoy. High temperatures may keep the animals indoors or under shelter if you visit later in the summer.

Planting trees can be enjoyable for your little one. This would be his chance to play with soil and dirt and not get scolded for it. It will be fun for them as they help out with soil in pots or plant the seeds in the soil. You can ask them to water the plants as well as using a small water can.

When we go to the park, my 2,5 year old son runs smiling to any kid, usually his age, and starts copying him/her – climbing, pointing, falling and etc. is this behavior is normal for toddlers?
